The start of festivities on the coast of Goa marks the beginning of the beach shack business and the commencement of the new tourism season. Infact, beach shack owners look forward to Dussehra to tap the business offered by domestic tourists. However, this year, while firecrackers lit the sky, the beach belt was in darkness.
The much-loved beach shacks are making a delayed appearance primarily due to the state’s environment department withholding its approval for their location assignments based on the beach’s capacity.

The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has stated sewage holding tanks with adequate capacity as a mandatory condition to erect beach shacks.
