Groundwater in India is a critical resource. Found underground in the cracks and spaces in soil and rock, it can stay for hundreds of thousands of years, or it can come to the surface and help fill rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, and wetlands. However, industrialisation, contamination and over-exploitation have critically depleted this resource.

About 50% of India’s municipal, domestic, and agricultural water supply is groundwater. It account for nearly 95% of the nation’s fresh water resources. With increasingly unpredictable rainfall patterns, groundwater assumes an even more important role in the country.

Despite the valuable nature of the resource, it is not treated as such. Rapid decline of groundwater levels is a critically growing issue. Its either used too fast or polluted by human activities.

Contaminated groundwater is an issue easily ignored.

What’s not visible doesn’t exist right?

Potential of Wastewater

There are various contaminants of groundwaters, but one of the major issues in India is wastewater. Wastewater is an undervalued resource during a time where water scarcity is a growing issue. Under appropriate conditions, wastewater has great potential in lessening the burden on groundwater resources.

Wastewater is often seen as a burden to be disposed of. However, with proper management, it could be the key to water recovery. Inadequate wastewater management has spread contaminants into waterbodies. Seeping through the soil, polluting the groundwater and aquifers.

The implementation of sustainable wastewater treatment provides the opportunity of safe water reuse. Additionally, the treated water can be used to recharge aquifers and replenish groundwater supply.

Wastewater Treatments

Unison offers a factory fitted modular wastewater treatment system in a Plug and Play model. Our treatment plants focus on treating the wastewater at source and giving back to the local groundwater reservoir. The absence of chemicals and microbes make the output of safe to be discharged into the environment or used for multiple non potable uses.

The IoT enabled system eliminates the need for constant monitoring of the output. Additionally, following the IaaS model, Unison ensures that the burden of man management, operational costs and maintenance doesn’t fall on the user.

Conclusion

Let’s take wastewater more seriously. Psychologically, there may be a yuck factor when it comes to it. After all, it is wastewater. However, it also happens to be a resource that can greatly support us in this journey towards securing our water resources. Treat your wastewater and replenish your local groundwater.
